Today, we launched the Global Access to Talent from India (GATI) Foundation in collaboration with The Convergence Foundation and Manish Sabharwal, Vice-Chairman, TeamLease Services. We’re happy to have the support of the Honourable Minister of External Affairs, Dr S Jaishankar, and the Honourable Minister of State (independent charge), Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education, Jayant Chaudhary, in this endeavour.
The Global Access to Talent from India Foundation is a non-profit that will work on creating an enabling ecosystem for overseas employment. To do this, it will foster collaborations between governments, businesses and non-profits, and make it easier for Indian workers to migrate across borders for legitimate, dignified and well-paying work.
Nearly 700,00 Indians migrate to work overseas every year, the majority of them in GCC countries. GATI supports the expansion of this migrant flow to take advantage of job opportunities in care-work and related sectors, and to make recruitment and migration for such work ethical, safe, and mutually beneficial.
GATI will aim to build institutional capacity within government to support overseas employment; to energise the startup ecosystem to develop international mobility organisations; and to test innovations in financing and skilling through pilot initiatives.
Supporting the acceleration of India’s economic growth is a core area of work for the Godrej Foundation. We hope that GATI’s work will make it possible for more Indians than ever to seek a dignified path to increased economic opportunity, to fill critical skill gaps in high-income countries, and to fuel prosperity at home.
Big thanks to our partners in this venture. We wish the GATI team all the very best, and look forward to bringing you more news of their efforts and progress as we go on.
