The Godrej Foundation, an independent philanthropic trust, owns approximately 10% of the Godrej Industries Group, founded by Ardeshir Godrej.

Ardeshir, who founded Godrej in 1897, did so in the belief that the well-being of the people and of our planet were inseparable from the creation of profit. In the early days of his business, he was proud to give a majority of his profits to the Tilak Swaraj Fund in support of India’s freedom movement.

The Godrej Foundation derives its inspiration from his vision and deeds, and from the values that emerged out of that freedom movement –– India’s constitutional ideals of liberty, equality, fraternity and justice. Those values underpin our support for bold and impactful work that aims to build a better present and future for all Indians.

We support work towards accelerated development, inclusive institutions, and prosperous communities. Currently, we do this through investments in building knowledge that contributes to better policy-making; in ecosystems that support women, disadvantaged families and gifted young people to achieve their full potential; and in measures that create tangible progress for the Indian economy and Indian society. Our aim is to enable disciplined, responsible and evidence-based action. Our support is focused on projects that adopt this approach.

We do this work with love and humility, in adherence to the vision of Ardeshir Godrej and those who followed. We hope to contribute to a flourishing India and a just and prosperous world.
